Happy 100th Birthday, Pooh

1Winnie-the-Pooh turned 100 years old on October 14. The first book about the bear came out in Britain on that day in 1926. A. A. Milne wrote the stories, and E. H. Shepard drew the pictures.

2The name Winnie was taken from a real bear. In 1914, a Canadian army doctor for animals bought a black bear for 20 dollars. He named her Winnipeg after his hometown and called her Winnie. Later that year, he left her at the London Zoo.

3Milne's son, Christopher Robin, met Winnie at the zoo. The bear gave his father the idea for Winnie-the-Pooh. The boy's own stuffed toys also helped create the stories. Those toys are now kept at the New York Public Library.

4People around the world are celebrating the birthday. The library in New York is giving away 3,000 copies of the book. In Japan, a Pooh exhibition opened in Tokyo in March and then moved to other cities.

The name Winnie was taken from a real bear.(ウィニーという名前は本物のクマからとられた)や Those toys are now kept at the New York Public Library.(ぬいぐるみはいま図書館に置かれている)が例。name A after B(BにちなんでAと名づける)も、受け身の A was named after B
