How You Hold a Tablet May Shape Your Mood and Choices
1Researchers at McGill University in Canada have found that sitting up straight while using a tablet may slightly improve people's mood and lead to better choices in a game. The study appeared in the British Journal of Psychology. The university announced the results in August.
2Nearly 200 people from the university community took part. They were told that they were testing a mobile app, but the real question was how their posture affected them. In one group, the tablet sat on a stand on an adjustable table, which made people sit upright. In the other, the tablet lay flat on a lowered desk, so people hunched over it. Video software measured the angle of each person's neck to check their posture.
3Next, the participants played a computer game in which they pumped up a virtual balloon. Every pump added money, but if the balloon burst, they lost everything they had earned in that round. They could stop and keep their money at any time.
4Over the course of the game, the upright group took greater risks and tended to earn more. Jorge Armony, the senior author of the study, said these players were not acting more impulsively but were choosing a more effective strategy. The upright group also reported significantly stronger feelings of pride, which are linked to a positive mood.
5The study was also designed to avoid a problem with earlier research on power poses, in which people may have guessed what was being tested. In interviews afterward, most participants said they had not noticed that their posture was being changed. Armony said the effects were small and were seen only in a lab, and that changing posture is unlikely to transform someone's life.

本文の a computer game in which they pumped up a virtual balloon は「その中で風船に空気を入れていくゲーム」(= a computer game which they pumped up a virtual balloon in とは言わない)。which の前の前置詞は、元の文(they pumped up a balloon in the game)から来ている。
