A Pumpkin Passes 3,000 Pounds for the First Time
1A pumpkin in the United States has passed 3,000 pounds for the first time. It weighed 3,156 pounds, or about 1,430 kilograms. That is about as heavy as a small car.
2The pumpkin was weighed at a contest in Rhode Island on October 10. A man from the state grew it. It is about 300 pounds heavier than the world record. That record was set in England just one week earlier.
3Giant pumpkins are about 90 percent water. At their fastest, they can grow 14 to 23 kilograms in one day. Growers keep only one pumpkin on each plant, so it gets all the food and water. This year, the man used a greenhouse for the first time.
4Guinness World Records still has to check the result. If it agrees, the pumpkin will become the new world record holder.

文法ポイント:比較級 + than(差は前に置く)
It is about 300 pounds heavier than the world record.
