A 10-Minute Run and Your Brain
1People felt happier and did better on a brain test after a 10-minute run, a Japanese study found. Researchers at the University of Tsukuba in Ibaraki did the study.
2Twenty-six healthy young adults took part. Their average age was about 23. One day, they ran for 10 minutes at a moderate speed. On another day, they rested for 10 minutes.
3Before and after, they took a test with color words. Some words, like RED, were printed in another color, such as green. People had to answer about the ink color, not the word. After running, people answered these hard questions faster. They also said they felt more awake and happier.
4A machine that uses light checked blood flow in the front part of the brain. After running, both sides of this part became more active.
5The study was small, and the people were not teenagers. In a 2018 study, Tsukuba and a U.S. university tested 36 young adults. Ten minutes of very light exercise helped their memory.

A machine that uses light
