Paper or Screen for Reading?

1People understand some texts a little better on paper than on screens, a big review of studies found. Researchers in Spain and Israel did the review in 2018.

2They put together the results of 54 studies from 2000 to 2017. More than 171,000 people took part in these studies. People read texts on paper or on a screen and then answered questions about them.

3Paper was better for texts that give information. With stories, there was no difference. The gap was bigger when readers had a time limit.

4People now use screens more, but the gap did not get smaller. It grew a little from 2000 to 2017. Still, the difference between paper and screens was small.

5In another review in 2019, a researcher in the US looked at 33 studies. Readers on screens often thought they understood more than they really did.

文法ポイント:比較級(a little better than ~)

good / well の比較級は better。本文の understand some texts a little better on paper than on screens は「画面より紙のほうが少しよく理解する」。
