Sports Club Members Are Fitter, Survey Says

1People who belong to sports clubs are fitter than people who do not, a government survey has found. The Japan Sports Agency released the results on October 11, a day before Sports Day.

2About 60,000 people aged 6 to 79 took fitness tests. The tests included grip strength, sit-ups, and running. The agency has done this survey every year since 1964.

3In every age group, people in sports clubs had higher total scores. For 12-year-olds and 15-year-olds, the gap has grown over the years. At 15, club members scored about 9 points higher.

4Far fewer young people are in clubs by the age of 19. This is especially true for women. The agency plans to give people more chances to exercise near their homes and at work.

People who belong to sports clubs are fitter than people who do not.
