Sato Becomes Japan's First Triple Crown Winner in Four Years

1Hanshin Tigers slugger Teruaki Sato has won the Triple Crown, finishing the regular season first in the Central League in batting average, home runs and runs batted in. His titles became official on October 8, as the Central League finished its regular season. It is the first Triple Crown in Japanese professional baseball in four years.

2According to official league statistics, Sato batted .306 in 143 games. He hit 39 home runs and drove in 106 runs, the most in the league in both categories. His teammate Shota Morishita came second in home runs with 35, while no other qualified player reached 90 runs batted in.

3Sato's season was not only about power. He collected 165 hits, including 40 doubles, and also drew 68 walks. He also scored 100 runs, and his slugging percentage was .609. At the same time, he struck out 164 times.

4The last player to win the Triple Crown was Munetaka Murakami, who did it for the Yakult Swallows in 2022. NHK reported that Sato is only the ninth player in the history of Japanese professional baseball to achieve the feat.

5The Tigers have produced a Triple Crown winner before. Randy Bass won it for the team in both 1985 and 1986. Bass said that he had been sure Sato would do it and that Sato could hold his head high. Forty years after Bass won his second title, the Tigers have another Triple Crown hitter.

1阪神タイガースの強打者、佐藤輝明選手が、レギュラーシーズンを打率・ホームラン・打点のすべてセ・リーグ1位で終え、三冠王になりました。セ・リーグのレギュラーシーズンが終わった10月8日に、タイトルが正式に決まりました。日本のプロ野球で三冠王が出たのは4年ぶりです。

2リーグの公式記録によると、佐藤選手は143試合に出場し、打率は3割6厘でした。ホームランは39本、打点は106で、どちらもリーグでいちばん多い数字でした。チームメートの森下翔太選手が35本でホームラン2位となり、ほかに90打点に届いた規定打席到達者はいませんでした。

3佐藤選手のシーズンは、パワーだけではありませんでした。二塁打40本を含む165安打を放ち、四球も68個選びました。得点も100あり、長打率は6割9厘でした。一方で、三振も164個ありました。
