Teruaki Sato Wins the Triple Crown

1Teruaki Sato of the Hanshin Tigers has won the Triple Crown in Japanese baseball. He finished first in the Central League in three areas. They are batting average, home runs and runs batted in.

2Sato had a batting average of .306 this season. He also hit 39 home runs and had 106 runs batted in. He played in 143 games.

3No player in Japan had won the Triple Crown for four years. The last one was Munetaka Murakami of the Yakult Swallows in 2022. Sato is only the ninth player in history to win it.

4Randy Bass won the Triple Crown for the Tigers in 1985 and 1986. Bass said he was sure that Sato could do it. He also said that Sato should feel proud.

全文訳

1阪神タイガースの佐藤輝明選手が、日本のプロ野球で三冠王になりました。セ・リーグで、3つの部門で1位になったのです。その3つとは、打率、ホームラン、打点です。

2佐藤選手の今シーズンの打率は3割6厘でした。ホームランは39本、打点は106でした。出場したのは143試合です。

3日本では4年間、三冠王になった選手はいませんでした。前回は、2022年のヤクルトスワローズの村上宗隆選手でした。佐藤選手は、歴史上わずか9人目の三冠王です。

4ランディ・バースさんは、1985年と1986年にタイガースで三冠王になりました。バースさんは、佐藤選手ならできると確信していたと話しました。そして、佐藤選手は胸を張っていいとも言いました。

文法ポイント：現在完了（have / has + 過去分詞）

過去に起きたことが「いま」につながっていることを表す。ニュースの最初の文によく使われる。本文の Teruaki Sato ... has won the Triple Crown. は「三冠王になった（そしていま三冠王だ）」という意味。
