1A plush Pikachu dressed in an astronaut suit has been given a guided tour of the International Space Station (ISS). The European Space Agency (ESA) posted the video on its YouTube channel during World Space Week, which ran from October 4 to 10. The video is part of a new partnership between ESA and The Pokémon Company International.

2The toy did not just pose for the camera on the ground. It flew to the station during the mission of ESA astronaut Sophie Adenot and spent 67 days in orbit, from April 11 to June 17, 2026. ESA said it completed about 1,040 orbits of Earth during that time.

3In the video, Adenot guides Pikachu through the systems that keep the crew alive. She explains that the station recycles 98 percent of its water with a filtration system. She also shows freezers that can reach minus 98 degrees Celsius, which are used for blood samples and scientific experiments. The tour ends in the crew quarters.

4The partnership reaches beyond a single video. ESA and Pokémon have created a family exhibition that mixes real space science with Pokémon characters. Its panels explain how Europe launches missions, supports astronauts on the ISS and studies the Sun. After opening at ESA sites in six countries, the exhibition is touring museums such as the Science Museum in London until April 2027.

5Players of the mobile game Pokémon GO can also join in. Until April 30, 2027, participating museums are holding raids featuring Astronaut Pikachu. ESA said the project aims to spark curiosity about space among people of all ages, especially young people.
