A New Record for a New Kind of Solar Panel

1Scientists in Australia have set a world record with a new kind of solar panel. The panel uses a material called perovskite. It turned 23.5 percent of the sunlight that hit it into electricity.

2Each side of the panel is 30 centimeters long, the length of a long ruler. Many perovskite tests use tiny cells only about one centimeter wide. The new panel is hundreds of times bigger than those cells.

3Scientists say perovskite may be cheap to make. It can also be used together with silicon, another solar material, to catch more of the sunlight.

4But perovskite has a weak point. Water, heat and long hours of sunlight can damage it. Next, the team plans to build a full-size panel of about 2.8 square meters.

文法ポイント:turn A into B(AをBに変える)

turn A into B で「AをBに変える」。 It turned 23.5 percent of the sunlight ... into electricity.
