A 1,295-Kilogram Pumpkin Breaks the World Record
1A British gardener has broken his own world record for the heaviest pumpkin. The pumpkin weighed 1,295.8 kilograms, or about 2,856 pounds, at a giant vegetable contest in Wargrave, England, on October 3. Officials from the Great Pumpkin Commonwealth, the group that checks giant pumpkin weights, confirmed the result. Guinness World Records said the pumpkin is heavier than a white rhino.
2The grower, a 65-year-old man from Hampshire, named the pumpkin Bagheera. His son suggested the name, which comes from the black panther in The Jungle Book.
3The previous record also belonged to him. In October 2025, he and his twin brother presented a 1,278.8-kilogram pumpkin called Muggle at a contest in Wargrave. Muggle took the title from an American grower and made the brothers the first British holders of the record. Bagheera is almost 20 kilograms heavier than Muggle, but Muggle still holds a separate record for the largest pumpkin measured around the middle, at 649.8 centimeters.
4This year, the gardener worked alone for the first time. He grew Bagheera in a greenhouse, which gave the plant an early start and a longer season. He spent up to six hours a day in the pumpkin patch for two months. During heat waves, the greenhouse reached 40 degrees Celsius, and the plant received up to 590 liters of water a day.
5Bagheera is on display at a farm near Southampton until the end of October. After that, it will be used as food for cattle. The grower has already collected more than 2,600 seeds from it, and he said his next goal is a 3,000-pound pumpkin.

文法ポイント:非制限用法の関係代名詞 which(, which ...)
His son suggested the name, which comes from the black panther in The Jungle Book.
