The Heaviest Pumpkin in the World
1A pumpkin from England has set a new world record for weight. It weighed 1,295.8 kilograms at a contest in Wargrave, England, on October 3. That is heavier than a white rhino.
2The pumpkin has a name. It is called Bagheera, after the black panther in The Jungle Book. The grower's son chose the name.
3The grower is a 65-year-old man from Hampshire, England. Last year, he and his twin brother set the old record with another pumpkin. Bagheera is about 20 kilograms heavier than that pumpkin.
4He grew Bagheera in a greenhouse. He worked on the plant for up to six hours a day. On hot days, the plant got up to 590 liters of water.
5Visitors can see the pumpkin at a farm near Southampton until the end of October. After that, it will become food for cows.

1イングランドのカボチャが、重さの世界記録を新しく作りました。10月3日、イングランドのウォーグレイブで開かれた大会で、重さは1295.8キロありました。これはシロサイよりも重いのです。
2このカボチャには名前があります。「ジャングル・ブック」に出てくる黒ヒョウにちなんで、バギーラと呼ばれています。名前を選んだのは、育てた人の息子です。
3育てたのは、イングランドのハンプシャーに住む65歳の男性です。去年、彼はふたごの兄弟といっしょに、別のカボチャで前の記録を作っていました。バギーラは、そのカボチャより約20キロ重いのです。
4彼はバギーラを温室で育てました。多い日は1日6時間も、この植物の世話をしました。暑い日には、この植物に最大590リットルもの水をあげました。
