Runaway Snow Monkey Returns Without Being Caught
1A Japanese macaque that escaped from a wildlife park in the Scottish Highlands has returned to his enclosure on his own. The young male, named Luka, got out of the Highland Wildlife Park late on August 16. The park is near the village of Kingussie.
2The Royal Zoological Society of Scotland, which runs the park, launched a search of the local area. Luka was spotted in the Balavil area, and staff used several methods to track him, including a drone with a thermal imaging camera. The park said the macaque was not dangerous, but it asked people not to approach him and to report any sightings.
3At about 5:50 p.m. on August 17, the park announced that Luka had come back to his habitat by himself. The society's head of animal care thanked the public and the search teams for their help. Keepers and vets will examine him before he is carefully reintroduced to his group. He also said that groups of monkeys are complex, and it is not unusual for males to be pushed out.
4This was not the first escape by a macaque from the park. In January 2024, another macaque was on the loose for several days and was seen in local neighborhoods before keepers recaptured him. Keepers thought he had been pushed out of his group, and he was later moved to Edinburgh Zoo.
5Japanese macaques are often called snow monkeys because they live farther north than any other monkey species. Their thick fur helps them survive cold winters, which makes the snowy Highlands a suitable home for them. Luka's trip outside the park lasted less than a day.

本文の the park announced that Luka had come back to his habitat by himself では、発表より前にルカが戻っていたことを示している。
