Jeddah Tower Climbs Past Half the Height of the Burj Khalifa

1The Jeddah Tower in Saudi Arabia reached a height of 430 meters in the summer of 2026, the chairman of the project's main investor said. That is slightly more than half the height of the Burj Khalifa in Dubai, the world's tallest building today. When it is completed, the Jeddah Tower is expected to stand more than 1,000 meters tall.

2The Burj Khalifa would lose its title by a wide margin. It stands 828 meters tall. The new tower is planned to have at least 167 stories, with more than 130 floors that people will use. Near the 160th floor, an observation level called the sky terrace will offer views over the Red Sea city of Jeddah.

3The project has had a long and bumpy history. It was launched in 2013 but was delayed for years for economic and political reasons and by the COVID-19 pandemic. After work picked up again, around 6,400 workers were on site by August 2026.

4The project manager told Newsweek that the central core of the tower has been rising by about four meters, or roughly one floor, per week. Holidays and strong winds have caused only short delays. He said the work was now moving faster than at any time before.

5The developers have set a target of 2028 for completion. Once finished, the new tower will be more than 170 meters taller than the Burj Khalifa.

本文の the Jeddah Tower is expected to stand more than 1,000 meters tall は「ジッダ・タワーは高さ1000メートルを超える見込みだ」という意味。
