1Saudi Arabia is building a tower that will be more than 1,000 meters tall. It is called the Jeddah Tower. In the summer of 2026, it reached 430 meters.

2Now the tallest building in the world is the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. It is 828 meters tall. When the Jeddah Tower is finished, it will be the new number one. It will be about 1.6 times as tall as Tokyo Skytree.

3Work on the tower began in 2013. However, it was delayed for many years. Today, about 6,400 people work at the site. The tower grows by about one floor every week.

4The tower will have more than 160 floors. There will be a sky terrace near the top for visitors. The builders plan to finish the tower in 2028.

1サウジアラビアが、高さ1000メートルを超えるタワーを建てています。名前はジッダ・タワーです。2026年の夏、高さは430メートルに達しました。

2今、世界でいちばん高いビルは、ドバイのブルジュ・ハリファです。高さは828メートルです。ジッダ・タワーが完成すると、新しい世界一になります。東京スカイツリーのおよそ1.6倍の高さになります。

3タワーの工事は2013年に始まりました。しかし、何年ものあいだ工事は遅れました。今は、約6400人が現場で働いています。タワーは1週間に約1階ずつ高くなっています。

4タワーは160階以上になる予定です。てっぺん近くには、訪れた人のための空のテラスができます。建設する人たちは、2028年にタワーを完成させる計画です。

文法ポイント：倍数の表し方（～ times as ＋ 形容詞 ＋ as ...）

「…の～倍の高さ」は ～ times as tall as ... で表す。本文の about 1.6 times as tall as Tokyo Skytree（東京スカイツリーのおよそ1.6倍の高さ）がその例。2倍は twice as ～ as を使う。
