Japan's World Cup Ends Against Brazil

1Japan's men's soccer team lost 2-1 to Brazil at the FIFA World Cup on June 29, 2026. The game was in Houston, in the United States. The loss ended Japan's World Cup.

2This World Cup had 48 teams for the first time. Japan played three games in its group. It drew with the Netherlands, beat Tunisia 4-0 and drew with Sweden 1-1. Japan finished second in the group.

3Against Brazil, Kaishu Sano scored first for Japan. Brazil tied the game in the second half. Then Brazil scored again in added time at the very end of the game.

4Japan has never won a knockout game at the World Cup. Coach Hajime Moriyasu said Japan is getting closer to the top teams. He also said there is still a gap.

全文訳

12026年6月29日（日本時間30日）、サッカー男子日本代表はワールドカップでブラジルに1対2で負けました。試合はアメリカのヒューストンで行われました。この負けで、日本のワールドカップは終わりました。

2今回のワールドカップには、初めて48チームが出場しました。日本はグループで3試合を戦いました。オランダと引き分け、チュニジアに4対0で勝ち、スウェーデンと1対1で引き分けました。日本はグループ2位になりました。

3ブラジル戦では、佐野海舟選手が日本の先制ゴールを決めました。ブラジルは後半に同点に追いつきました。そして試合の最後のアディショナルタイムに、ブラジルがもう1点を決めました。

4日本はワールドカップの決勝トーナメントで、まだ一度も勝ったことがありません。森保一監督は、日本はトップのチームに近づいていると話しました。一方で、まだ差があるとも話しました。

文法ポイント：現在完了（have / has + never + 過去分詞）

「一度も～したことがない」を表す。本文の Japan has never won a knockout game at the World Cup. は「日本はW杯の決勝トーナメントで一度も勝ったことがない」。
