More Visitors to Japan Than Ever
1Japan welcomed about 42.7 million foreign visitors in 2025, a new record. The Japan National Tourism Organization announced the number in January 2026. That is more than one-third of Japan's population.
2It was the first time the number went over 40 million. In 2024, about 36.9 million people visited Japan. The number rose by about 16 percent in one year.
3The largest group came from South Korea, with about 9.46 million visitors. China was second, and Taiwan was third. Visitors from the United States also increased.
4Foreign visitors spent about 9.5 trillion yen in Japan. That was also a record. In 2024, visitors spent about 8.1 trillion yen. The government wants 60 million visitors a year by 2030.
