A Giant Museum Opens Near the Pyramids

1Egypt fully opened a giant new museum near the Pyramids of Giza on November 1, 2025. Its name is the Grand Egyptian Museum. It cost about one billion dollars to build.

2The museum shows treasures from King Tutankhamun's tomb. About 5,000 objects from the tomb are now in one place. They are shown together for the first time since the tomb was found in 1922.

3The museum's exhibition space is bigger than three soccer fields. Visitors can also see a huge statue of King Ramesses II. The statue is about 3,200 years old.

4Japan helped Egypt build the museum. Japan lent money for the building and sent about 90 experts. They worked with Egyptian experts to repair and move old treasures.

5Egypt hopes the museum will bring more tourists to the country. In 2024, a record 15.7 million tourists visited Egypt.

全文訳

12025年11月1日、エジプトがギザのピラミッドの近くにある巨大な新しい博物館を全面オープンしました。名前は大エジプト博物館です。建てるのに、約10億ドルかかりました。

2博物館では、ツタンカーメン王の墓から見つかった宝物が展示されています。墓から出た約5000点が、今はひとつの場所にそろっています。1922年に墓が見つかってから、全部が一緒に展示されるのは初めてです。

3博物館の展示スペースは、サッカー場3面分よりも広いです。来館者は、ラムセス2世王の巨大な像を見ることもできます。この像は、約3200年前のものです。

4日本は、エジプトが博物館を建てるのを手伝いました。日本は建設のためのお金を貸し、約90人の専門家を送りました。日本の専門家たちはエジプトの専門家といっしょに、古い宝物を修復して運びました。

5エジプトは、この博物館がもっと多くの観光客を呼んでくれることを期待しています。2024年には、過去最多の1570万人の観光客がエジプトを訪れました。

文法ポイント：It costs ＋ お金 ＋ to ～（～するのに…かかる）

It cost about one billion dollars to build. は「建てるのに約10億ドルかかった」という意味。It は後ろの to build を指す。cost は過去形も cost のまま。
