Royal Jewels Stolen from the Louvre in Seven Minutes
1Thieves stole eight pieces of royal jewelry from the Louvre in Paris in broad daylight on Sunday, October 19, 2025. The theft took place at around 9:30 a.m., shortly after the museum had opened for the day. French officials said the whole theft took about seven minutes. No one was hurt.
2The thieves targeted the Galerie d'Apollon, a long hall decorated with a painted ceiling. Since the 1860s, it has displayed jewels from the former French royal collection. Among the stolen pieces were a tiara and a diamond brooch that belonged to Empress Eugenie, the wife of Napoleon III. The thieves also took an emerald necklace that Napoleon I had given to his wife, Empress Marie-Louise.
3One piece never left the area. While fleeing, the thieves dropped Eugenie's crown, which is set with 1,354 diamonds and 56 emeralds. The crown was later found damaged outside the museum.
4The Louvre closed for the rest of the day. Interior Minister Laurent Nunez said a specialist police unit was investigating. He also said the police suspected an experienced team. By that evening, none of the eight stolen jewels had been found.
5The theft has raised questions about security at the Louvre. Labor unions at the museum say about 200 full-time jobs have been cut over the past 15 years. Before the theft, President Emmanuel Macron had announced a plan to renovate the museum, including new security cameras and a new entrance by 2031.

本文の shortly after the museum had opened(美術館が開館して間もなく)や none of the eight stolen jewels had been found(8点の宝石は1点も見つかっていなかった)がその例。
