A Robot Doctor Learns From Videos

1A robot in the United States did an important part of a surgery by itself. Researchers at Johns Hopkins University shared the results on July 9, 2025.

2The robot removed a gallbladder in a lab. The gallbladder is a small organ near the liver. The tests were not on living patients.

3The robot learned by watching videos of doctors. During the tests, team members also gave it instructions by voice. The robot understood the instructions and moved its arms.

4The robot did the job in all eight tests. Each time, it finished 17 small tasks, such as cutting and clipping. It was slower than a human doctor. But its results were as good as an expert's results.

5The robot is not ready to work in hospitals yet. Next, the team wants it to do a whole surgery from start to finish.

The robot learned by watching videos of doctors.
