Two Countries Without Electricity

1Almost all of Spain and Portugal lost electricity on April 28, 2025. The blackout started around midday. About 60 million people live in the two countries.

2Trains stopped, and many shops closed. The internet and phones did not work well. Many cities went dark that night.

3Power companies worked hard to bring back the electricity. Portugal got all of its power back around midnight. Spain got all of its power back early the next morning.

4Experts from Europe studied the blackout for almost a year. In March 2026, they said there was no single cause. The main problem was that the voltage on the power lines got too high. The system could not control it, so power stations stopped one after another.

文法ポイント:so(だから)でつなぐ文

A, so B. で「Aだから、B」と原因と結果をつなぐ。 The system could not control it, so power stations stopped one after another.
