1Many websites and online games in Japan stopped on the night of Oct. 21. They stopped because of a serious problem in PHP.

2PHP is a computer language for making websites. Nearly 70 percent of websites in the world use it, a research firm says. A website is a little like a restaurant. You only see the tables, but PHP works in the kitchen and makes the page for you.

3Two weak points were found in PHP. They were like back doors without locks. Attackers could use them to run their own programs on a website's computer.

4The PHP team released a fix at around 11 p.m. Japan time. Japanese government groups asked companies that run websites to use it quickly. Games such as Uma Musume and Granblue Fantasy were stopped to stay safe.

110月21日の夜、日本のたくさんのウェブサイトやオンラインゲームが止まりました。PHP にある重大な問題のためでした。

2PHP は、ウェブサイトを作るためのコンピューターの言語です。世界のウェブサイトの約7割が PHP を使っている、とある調査会社は言っています。ウェブサイトは、ちょっとレストランに似ています。お客さんに見えるのはテーブルだけですが、PHP は台所で働いて、あなたのためにページを作っています。

3PHP に2つの弱いところが見つかりました。それは、かぎのかかっていない裏口のようなものでした。悪い人がそこを使うと、ウェブサイトのコンピューターで自分のプログラムを動かせるおそれがありました。

4PHP のチームは、日本時間の夜11時ごろに、直したものを出しました。日本の政府の機関は、ウェブサイトを運営する会社に、それをすぐに使うよう求めました。ウマ娘やグランブルーファンタジーなどのゲームは、安全のために止められました。

文法ポイント：受け身（be動詞 + 過去分詞）

「～された」と、されたほうを主語にして言う形。本文の Two weak points were found in PHP. は「2つの弱いところが見つけられた（見つかった）」、Games ... were stopped は「ゲームが止められた」という意味。だれがしたかより、何が起きたかを伝えたいときに使う。
