Dragon Ball Super Gets an Enhanced Remake on Japanese TV

1A new version of the anime Dragon Ball Super began airing in Japan on Oct. 11. Titled Dragon Ball Super: Beerus, the series is broadcast nationwide on Fuji TV every Sunday at 11:15 p.m. It is also streamed on Prime Video and U-NEXT.

2The makers call it an enhanced version of the original anime. They added many new cuts, redrew scenes and rebuilt parts of the story. They said the new pictures would make the fights look more intense. The plan was first announced on Jan. 25, along with a trailer and a new main image. Akira Toriyama, who created Dragon Ball, is credited with the original story and character designs.

3The story is set a few years after the battle with Majin Buu. Beerus, a god of destruction, wakes from a long sleep and searches for the Saiyan who defeated Frieza. As Goku and his friends face Beerus, Earth itself is in danger of being destroyed. Beerus is voiced by Koichi Yamadera.

4The first episode drew attention online for a different reason. Mr. Satan was voiced by Unsho Ishizuka, who died in 2018. King Kai was voiced by Joji Yanami, who died in 2021. Many fans posted that they were happy to hear the two voices again.

5Viewers also praised the new opening, the drawings and the faster pace of the story. News reports said the cast for some other roles, including Bulma, had not been announced yet.

1アニメ『ドラゴンボール超』の新しい版が、10月11日に日本で放送を始めました。『ドラゴンボール超 ビルス』という題のこのシリーズは、毎週日曜の午後11時15分からフジテレビ系で全国に放送されます。Prime Video と U-NEXT でも配信されています。

2作り手たちは、これを元のアニメの「エンハンスド版」と呼んでいます。新しいカットをたくさん足し、場面を描き直し、物語の一部を組み立て直しました。新しい絵で、戦いの場面がより迫力のあるものになると説明しました。この計画は1月25日に、予告映像と新しいメインの絵とともに初めて発表されました。ドラゴンボールを生んだ鳥山明さんが、原作・ストーリー・キャラクターデザインとして名前を連ねています。
