Korean Frozen Yogurt Is a Hit With Students

1Korean-style frozen yogurt has become a top food trend among high school students in Japan. Students call it Yoajung, the name of a frozen yogurt shop from South Korea.

2Shibuya Trend Research asked 200 high school students about trends in September. Yoajung came second in the food ranking with 12.5 percent. In June, it was fourth with 8.0 percent. Malatang, a spicy soup from China, came first.

3At a Yoajung shop, customers start with yogurt ice cream. Then they choose their own toppings, such as fruit, chocolate and cereal. The company Mynavi said teens enjoy choosing their own toppings. The cups also look good on social media, it said.

4Mynavi asked 267 teenage girls in October 2025 about food for 2026. Yoajung was the top answer with 34.6 percent. At that time, the brand was opening new shops in Tokyo and Fukuoka.

5Shibuya Trend Research also named a possible next hit. It is a daifuku, a soft rice cake sweet, with fruit and yogurt cream from the same brand.

1韓国スタイルのヨーグルトアイスが、日本の高校生のあいだで、流行っている食べ物の上位になりました。生徒たちはこれを「ヨアジョン」とよびます。韓国から来たヨーグルトアイスのお店の名前です。

2渋谷トレンドリサーチが9月、高校生200人に流行について聞きました。食べ物のランキングで、ヨアジョンは12.5％で2位になりました。6月の調査では、8.0％で4位でした。1位は、中国のからいスープのマーラータンでした。

3ヨアジョンのお店では、まずヨーグルトアイスを選びます。そのあと、フルーツやチョコ、シリアルなど、自分でトッピングを選びます。マイナビという会社は、自分でトッピングを選ぶのが10代に楽しまれていると言っています。カップがSNSで映えることも人気の理由だそうです。

4マイナビは2025年10月、10代の女子267人に、2026年に流行りそうな食べ物を聞きました。いちばん多かった答えは、34.6％のヨアジョンでした。そのころ、ヨアジョンは東京や福岡に新しいお店を開いていました。

5渋谷トレンドリサーチは、次に流行りそうなものも挙げました。同じヨアジョンの、フルーツとヨーグルトクリームが入った大福（やわらかいおもちのお菓子）です。

文法ポイント：過去進行形（was / were + 〜ing）

「（そのとき）〜しているところだった」を表す。本文の the brand was opening new shops は「そのブランドは新しいお店を開いているところだった（次々に開いていた）」という意味。
