Is the Pomodoro Technique Better?
1Students who took breaks on a timer did not finish more work, a study found. Researchers at Maastricht University in the Netherlands did the study.
2They tested the Pomodoro Technique, a popular way to study. With this method, people study for 25 minutes and then rest for five minutes. Francesco Cirillo started to develop it in the 1980s as a university student. He used a kitchen timer shaped like a tomato. Pomodoro means tomato in Italian.
3The team studied 94 university students for two hours. The students were put into three groups. One group took Pomodoro breaks. In another group, students took breaks whenever they wanted. The third group used a method called Flowtime.
4In the end, all three groups finished about the same amount of their planned work. The researchers said two hours may be too short to show a difference.
5Some of the same researchers studied breaks with 87 students in 2023. In that study, students who took breaks at set times felt more focused and motivated.

shaped like a tomato が timer を説明している。
