1"Otsukare Summer," a song that the duo HALCALI released in 2003, has been named the top song of the summer on TikTok in Japan. TikTok's Songs of the Summer 2026 list, shared in early September, picks songs that were used in many videos and widely enjoyed on the app during the season. Sakanaction's "Yoru no Odoriko," another older song that found new fans through short videos, came second.

2The title combines otsukare, a Japanese word people say to thank others for their hard work, with the English word summer. The song began trending on TikTok in 2025, more than 20 years after it first came out. Videos posted in 2026 that used the song had been viewed more than 10 billion times by August, the music news site Real Sound reported. Its play count on Spotify was also close to 100 million in early September.

3One of the members said fans had posted many videos of themselves doing a cute dance to the song. The other member said people of all ages, and even animals, had danced to it. The trend also crossed borders. On TikTok's summer list for South Korea, the song ranked third, while the K-pop group CORTIS took first place.

4The duo performed at the Summer Sonic music festival on August 16. On September 2, HALCALI released a new digital single, "Guin Guin Guin." It was produced by O.T.F, a team the duo had last worked with 14 years earlier. The new song was made for a TV program for babies and young children.
