Idaho Fries Its Way to a Guinness World Record

1Potato growers in Idaho have set a Guinness World Record for the largest serving of French fries. The serving weighed 1,474 pounds, or about 669 kilograms. The attempt took place on October 2, 2026, at the Potato Days festival in Boise, the state capital.

2The Idaho Potato Commission, a state group that promotes Idaho potatoes, organized the attempt with the local restaurant chain Spud Daddy. Idaho grows more potatoes than any other U.S. state, so the record carried special meaning there. Thomas Watson of Spud Daddy said the record should belong to Idaho. This year's festival was held at the Idaho Botanical Garden in southeast Boise.

3Preparing that many fries took careful planning. About 50 to 60 volunteers cut roughly 1,700 pounds of raw potatoes into fries and flash-froze them. The frozen fries were kept in a refrigerated truck until it was time to cook. The team then used six fryers to cook everything.

4The fries were then weighed in an official weigh-in for Guinness World Records. The fries beat the previous record of 1,452.85 pounds, which had been set in India in 2018, by more than 20 pounds. The finished fries weighed less than the raw potatoes, partly because potatoes lose water when they are fried in hot oil.

5After the weigh-in, the record-breaking fries were served to people at the festival. Festival visitors were able to taste the world record for themselves.

本文の the previous record of 1,452.85 pounds, which had been set in India in 2018 は、今回の記録より前にインドで作られていたことを示す。
