Japan's Buzzwords of the Year in English

1Japan's buzzword of the year for 2025 came from a speech by Prime Minister Sanae Takaichi. The winner was announced on December 1. In English, the phrase is close to I will work, work, work, work and work.

2Takaichi said it in October after she became the first woman to lead her party. She later became Japan's first female prime minister. Her words made some people worry about working too much. At the award event, she said she did not want people to work too much.

3Ehho ehho was also in the top ten. It is the sound of someone running hard. It became popular with a photo of a baby owl running through the grass.

4Kokokomai means old, old, old rice. The government sold stored rice when rice prices were high. Each extra ko means one more year in storage.

5Niki means two seasons. Some people feel Japan now has only summer and winter.

I will work, work, work, work and work.(働いて、働いて…

4「古古古米」は old, old, old rice という意味です。

5「二季」は two seasons(2つの季節)という意味です。

make A do は「Aに~させる」。 Her words made some people worry about working too much.(彼女の言葉は、一部の人に働きすぎを心配させた)がその例。
