Duplantis Sets His 14th World Record Before a Full Stadium
1Swedish pole vaulter Armand Duplantis broke his own world record on September 15, 2025, clearing 6.30 meters at the World Athletics Championships in Tokyo. No man had ever cleared 6.30 meters before, and it was his 14th world record. The record came on the same night that he won his third world title.
2By the time the bar went up to 6.30 meters, Duplantis had already secured the gold medal. The new height was one centimeter above the record he had set in Budapest the month before. He missed his first two attempts. On his third and final attempt, he cleared the bar after the evening's other events had finished.
3More than 50,000 fans were in Japan National Stadium to see the jump. Duplantis won his first Olympic gold in the same stadium in 2021, with a jump of 6.02 meters. No fans were allowed in at that time because of the COVID-19 pandemic.
4Greece's Emmanouil Karalis took silver with 6.00 meters, 30 centimeters lower than Duplantis. Australia's Kurtis Marschall won bronze at 5.95 meters. American Sam Kendricks also cleared 5.95 meters but finished fourth on countback, a tie-break based on missed attempts.
5Duplantis has raised the world record one centimeter at a time. The Tokyo jump was his fourth world record of 2025. Earlier that year, he had cleared 6.27 meters indoors in France in February, then 6.28 meters in Stockholm and 6.29 meters in Budapest.

By the time the bar went up to 6.30 meters, Duplantis had already secured the gold medal. the record he had set in Budapest
