Cambridge Dictionary Adds Skibidi, Delulu and Tradwife

1Cambridge Dictionary has added skibidi, delulu and tradwife to its online edition. The three terms are among 6,212 new words, phrases and meanings that the dictionary has added over the past year. News of the additions came out on August 18, 2025. Many of the new words spread through social media platforms such as TikTok.

2Skibidi was invented by the creator of the animated YouTube series Skibidi Toilet. It can mean cool or bad, or it can carry no meaning and be used purely as a joke. Delulu, a shortened form of delusional, describes believing something that is not true, often by choice. Lewk, a playful spelling of look, refers to a bold or eye-catching outfit.

3Tradwife, short for traditional wife, refers to a married woman who focuses on cooking, cleaning and child care and shares that lifestyle online. Other additions reflect changes in work and the environment. A mouse jiggler is a device or program that makes a computer look busy while its user is away, a sign of how common remote work has become. Forever chemical, a harmful substance that stays in the environment for a very long time, also joined the dictionary.

4Colin McIntosh, who manages the dictionary's word list, said internet culture is changing the English language. He said the dictionary only adds words with staying power. Christian Ilbury, a sociolinguist at the University of Edinburgh, said some of the terms, including delulu, have longer histories than many people think.

5The update also added Gen Alpha, a name for people born roughly between 2010 and 2024.
