Unlike a neighborhood sento, which is a small local bath with one or two tubs, a super sento is built as a destination: a big building with a car park, typically on the edge of a town.

QIs the water real hot spring water?
Sometimes. Facilities that have drilled a source advertise it clearly and must display the analysis. Others heat ordinary water and add minerals or bath agents, which is legal and must not be described as hot spring water.

QDo I need to bring anything?
A towel and a small hand towel, or rent them at the desk. Shampoo and soap are almost always provided at the washing stations. Bring a coin for the locker if the system uses returnable coins.
