まずはこの3つ
- It is と that を消して〜を戻すと完全な文→強調構文
- 〜が形容詞・p.p.・a pity などで、that 節が完全→形式主語
- 強調構文の疑問文は 疑問詞＋is [was] it that 〜?
It is 〜 that の3つの正体

見分け方の手順4
- 1It is / was と that を消す残った〜を that 以下のあるべき場所に戻してみる（先に手順4で、It が前の物を指していないか確かめる）。
- 2完全な文になれば強調構文It was in Kyoto that I met her. → I met her in Kyoto.（○）。〜は名詞か副詞（句・節）。
- 3戻せなければ形式主語It is true that he lied. → He lied true.（✕）。〜は形容詞・p.p.・名詞（a pity・a fact）で、that 節は完全な文。
- 4It が前の物を指すなら関係詞It が前文の名詞を指し「それは〜だ」と訳せる時は、that は関係代名詞。前後の文脈で決める。
強調構文の正体
強調構文は「It is ＿＿ that 〜」のカッコに、言いたい1点（焦点）を入れてスポットライトを当てる形。that 以下はふつう「前提となる情報」。だから「窓を割ったのは（誰かというと）トムだ」と、that 以下から先に訳すと自然になる。
強調できるもの・できないもの5
- 1主語・目的語人なら who、物なら which も使える。that 以下は主語・目的語が欠けた不完全な文。It was this book that [which] changed my life.私の人生を変えたのはこの本だった。
- 2副詞（句・節）時・場所・理由の副詞句や節。that 以下は完全な文。入試では who・which・where は使わず that。It was only last week that I heard the news.その知らせを聞いたのはつい先週のことだ。✕It was in Kyoto which I met her. → It was in Kyoto that I met her.
- 3because 節は可、since・as は不可理由を強調できるのは because 節だけ。since・as は理由を背景として添える語なので焦点にならない。It was because he was sick that he stayed home.彼が家にいたのは病気だったからだ。
- 4形容詞・動詞は強調できない形容詞や動詞はふつう It is と that ではさまない（※原則）。一般動詞を強めるなら do / does / did＋原形。I did call you yesterday.昨日ちゃんと電話したよ。
- 5動詞は強調された語に一致主語を強調したら、that / who の後の動詞は強調された語に合わせる。※口語では It's me who's 〜 も普通。It is I who am to blame.悪いのは私だ。
強調構文の発展形4
- 1疑問詞の強調疑問詞＋is [was] it that 〜?（いったい〜）。間接疑問なら 疑問詞＋it is [was] that 〜 の語順。What is it that you really want?本当にほしいのはいったい何なの？I don't know what it is that he wants.彼がいったい何をほしいのかわからない。
- 2It was not until 〜 that …「〜して初めて…した」。＝Not until 〜 did S V（倒置）＝S didn't V until 〜。It was not until I left home that I realized how hard my mother worked.家を出て初めて母の苦労がわかった。
- 3It is not A but B that 〜「〜なのは A ではなく B だ」。It is not money but time that I need.私に必要なのはお金ではなく時間だ。
- 4What 〜 is ＝ 強調の別の形What I need is time.（私に必要なのは時間だ）も焦点を後ろに置く強調の形。書きかえで出る。
形式主語でよく出る形
〜の位置にこれらが来たら、まず形式主語を疑う。
