Storyノルウェーの画家ムンクが1901年ごろに描いた絵です。白・赤・緑の服を着た3人の少女が、木の橋の手すりにもたれて水面をのぞいています。奥には白い家と大きな木。その黒い影が水にうつっています。舞台はオスロの南にある海辺の村、オースゴールストランの桟橋です。今はオスロの国立美術館にあります。
Edvard Munch painted this picture around 1901. Three girls in white, red and green lean on the railing of a wooden bridge and look down at the water. Behind them are a white house and a big tree, and the tree's dark shape is reflected in the water. The scene is the pier at Åsgårdstrand, a seaside village south of Oslo. The painting is now in the National Museum in Oslo.

In 1898, Munch bought a small house in this village and spent his summers there. In northern Europe, summer nights stay light for a long time. This picture is filled with that soft summer night light. The road and the railing run at an angle and pull our eyes deep into the picture. We cannot see the girls' faces. Their backs alone create a quiet mood.
この構図はムンクのお気に入りで、少女の数や服の色、季節を変えながら、生涯にくり返し描きました。2016年にはそのうちの1点（1902年ごろの作）がニューヨークのオークションで約5450万ドルで落札され、大きな話題になりました。斜めの道と手すりは『叫び』にも出てくる、ムンクらしい舞台です。
Munch loved this composition. He painted it again and again in his life, changing the number of girls, the colors of their clothes and the season. In 2016, one version from around 1902 sold at an auction in New York for about 54.5 million dollars. A slanting road with a railing also appears in The Scream. It is a typical Munch stage.

Secrets橋の上の少女たち（女性たち）の場面は、1901年から1930年代まで描かれ、油絵だけで12点が知られています。版画もあります。ムンクは気に入った場面を何度も描き直し、そのたびに色や人物を変えて、新しい気持ちをこめました。
Munch painted the girls (or women) on the bridge from 1901 into the 1930s. Twelve oil paintings are known, and there are prints too. He liked to repaint favorite scenes, changing the colors and figures each time to express new feelings.
2016年11月、1902年ごろの別のバージョンがニューヨークのサザビーズで約5450万ドルで落札されました。当時、ムンクの作品としてオークション史上2番目に高い値段でした。落札したのは、ドイツの実業家ハッソ・プラットナーです。
In November 2016, another version from around 1902 sold at Sotheby's in New York for about 54.5 million dollars. At that time, it was the second-highest auction price for a work by Munch. The buyer was the German businessman Hasso Plattner.
ムンクが1898年に買ったオースゴールストランの小さな家は、今は記念館として公開されています。ムンクはこの村の海辺や桟橋、道を何度も描きました。絵の中の景色と、実際の村をくらべに訪れる人もいます。
The small house in Åsgårdstrand that Munch bought in 1898 is now open to visitors as a memorial house. Munch painted the village's beach, pier and roads many times. Some people visit to compare the real village with his paintings.
ムンクは亡くなるとき、手元に残っていたばく大な数の作品を、オスロ市に寄贈しました。それをもとに作られたのが、オスロのムンク美術館です。2021年には海辺に新しい大きな建物が開館しました。
When Munch died, he left the huge number of works he still owned to the city of Oslo. They became the core of the Munch Museum. In 2021, a large new museum building opened by the sea.
