Some scientists said that if students think about a bad stereotype, like "girls are bad at math," their test scores go down. This idea is called stereotype threat, and it became very famous.
But later, scientists tested it again with about 2,000 high school students in the Netherlands. This time, they found no effect on girls' math scores. Even famous results need to be checked again.

Q1. What is the passage mainly about?
Q2. How many students took part in the new test?
about 2,000 high school students in the Netherlands とあるので C。
Q3. In this passage, "checked again" means ...
Stereotype threat is the idea that being reminded of a negative stereotype about your group can lower your performance. In a famous 1995 study, Black students in the United States scored lower than white students on a difficult verbal test when it was described as a measure of intelligence, but the gap almost disappeared when it was described differently. A 1999 study reported a similar effect for women in math.
However, in the 2010s, many famous findings in psychology failed to appear again in larger studies. A 2015 analysis found that the effect for girls was small and showed signs of publication bias. Then, in 2018, a preregistered study of about 2,000 Dutch high school students found no effect at all.

Q1. In the 1995 study, when did the gap between Black and white students almost disappear?
知能を測るテストと説明されたときは差が出たが、the gap almost disappeared when it was described differently とあるので D。
Q2. What did the 2015 analysis find?
the effect for girls was small and showed signs of publication bias とあるので A。
Q3. What can we infer from the passage?
In a 1995 study at Stanford, Black and white students took the same difficult verbal test. When it was described as a measure of intellectual ability, Black students scored lower than white students. When it was presented as a problem-solving exercise unrelated to ability, the gap nearly vanished. The researchers called this stereotype threat, the idea that awareness of a negative stereotype about one's group can undermine performance.
A 1999 study reported a similar pattern for women taking math tests, and the concept became a textbook staple. Psychology's replication crisis brought closer scrutiny. A 2015 meta-analysis of studies with girls found the effect to be small and detected signs of publication bias, the tendency for positive results to be more likely to get published.
In 2018, a preregistered replication with about 2,000 Dutch high school students found no effect of stereotype threat on girls' math scores. A 2019 meta-analysis gave a more mixed result. Effects appeared mainly when researchers deliberately strengthened the threat in laboratories, and they were much smaller in settings that resembled real exams. So stereotype threat may be real under certain conditions without being the powerful force it was once claimed to be.
