1A software company has picked lore as the social media word of the year for 2026. The company, Sprout Social, made the announcement on October 14. It said the word was mentioned more than 10 million times in public posts this year.

2Lore is an old English word. Long ago, it meant learning. Later, fans started to use it for the facts and stories about a character. It can also mean the history of a made-up world.

3Now people use lore for real people, too. On TikTok, some users share their dad lore, or stories about their fathers. Sprout Social said one everyday trend was finding out that a friend has lore.

4Other top words on the list included slop, with 8.8 million mentions. People use slop for low-quality content made by AI in large amounts.

5This was the company's second word of the year. Its first one, in 2025, was aura.

全文訳

1ソフトウェアの会社が、lore（ロア）を2026年の「SNSの今年の言葉」に選びました。その会社、スプラウト・ソーシャルが10月14日に発表しました。会社によると、この言葉は今年、だれでも見られる投稿の中で1000万回以上使われました。

2lore は古くからある英語の言葉です。ずっと昔は「学び」という意味でした。そのあと、ファンが、あるキャラクターについての事実やお話をまとめて呼ぶのに使いはじめました。作り話の世界の歴史という意味にもなります。

3今では、実在の人にも lore を使います。TikTok では、「お父さんの lore」、つまり自分のお父さんについての話を投稿する人もいます。スプラウト・ソーシャルは、「友だちに lore があると気づくこと」が身近な流行の1つだったと言っています。

4リストのほかの上位の言葉には、880万回使われた slop（スロップ）がありました。slop は、AI が大量に作った質の低い中身を指す言葉です。

「～される」を表す。本文の the word was mentioned more than 10 million times は「その言葉は1000万回以上使われた（話題にされた）」という意味。だれがしたかより、何がされたかを伝えたいときに使う。
