Japan's First Woman Prime Minister
1Sanae Takaichi became Japan's first female prime minister on October 21, 2025. She was 64 years old at the time. She is from Nara Prefecture.
2In Japan, the Diet chooses the prime minister. The Diet has two houses, and members of both houses vote. The two votes took place on the same day.
3In the lower house, Takaichi got 237 of the 465 votes. She needed at least 233 votes to win. In the upper house, no one got more than half of the votes at first. So the members voted again, and she won.

12025年10月21日、高市早苗さんが日本で初めての女性の首相になりました。そのとき64歳でした。奈良県の出身です。
