A zabuton is the answer to a simple problem: how to sit comfortably in a room with no chairs. Look for the side with no seam. A zabuton is sewn on three sides and folded on the fourth, and the folded edge faces the front, toward your knees. The side with the little tuft of thread in the center is the top. Most hosts set it correctly for you.
