Working from Home

Marcus(Canada)Ananya(India)

Marcus
So, Ananya, are you still working from home full-time?
Ananya
Mostly, yes. I go into the Bangalore office once a week, on Wednesdays, for team meetings. What about you?
Marcus
Our company brought everyone back three days a week. A lot of people weren't thrilled about it.
Ananya
I can imagine. Commuting in Bangalore can easily take an hour and a half each way, so working from home saves me nearly three hours a day.
Marcus
That's huge. What do you do with the extra time?
Ananya
I go for a walk in the morning and actually sit down for breakfast with my parents. Before, I used to grab something on the way and eat at my desk.
Marcus
Sounds like a better life. But don't you ever feel cut off from your team?
Ananya
Sometimes. The biggest problem is that you miss the small conversations — the chat by the coffee machine where you find out what's going on.
Marcus
Right. Honestly, that's the main reason I don't mind going in. Half my best ideas come from random conversations in the hallway.
Ananya
That's fair. Some of the new joinees on my team say it's hard to learn without sitting next to someone experienced.
Marcus
"Joinees"? I don't think I've heard that word before.
Ananya
Oh, it's common in Indian offices. It just means new employees. I suppose you'd say "new hires".
Marcus
Exactly. I like "joinees", though. It's logical.
Ananya
Anyway, I think the hybrid model is the best of both worlds, as long as people can choose what works for them.
Marcus
Agreed. Although my boss might have a problem with the word "choose".

カナダの Marcus の "about" は「アボウト」に近く、"thrilled about it" はひと続きです。
