入試の言い換え

• although 〜だけれども — 接続詞。though よりやや硬く、文頭中心。文末の副詞用法はない
• even though 〜であるのに — 接続詞。事実を強調し『〜なのに！』という意外さが強い
• despite the fact that 〜という事実にもかかわらず — 前置詞 despite + the fact that 節。書き言葉向き
• while 〜ではあるが — 文頭の While S V, で譲歩。対比の意味にもなる
• however しかし — 文末の副詞 though（It was expensive, though.）の書き言葉版。文頭・文中にも置ける
• but しかし — 接続詞。Though A, B. ⇔ A, but B. と節の順序が入れ替わる点に注意

会話で文末に置く though は『まあ〜だけどね』くらいの軽い付け足し。although にはこの文末用法がないのが決定的な違いで、リスニングで意外とよく聞こえる。
