目安 4分Energy from the Sun
Most of the world's electricity has long been generated by burning fossil fuels such as coal, oil, and gas. However, these resources are limited, and burning them releases carbon dioxide, which contributes to global warming. For these reasons, many countries have been trying to increase their use of renewable energy, and solar power has become one of the most important sources.
Solar panels were first used in the 1950s to provide power for satellites, but at that time they were extremely expensive. Since then, improvements in technology and mass production, especially in China, have caused prices to fall dramatically. The cost of solar power dropped by around ninety percent between 2010 and 2020. Today, in many parts of the world, it is one of the cheapest ways to generate electricity, and solar panels can be seen on the roofs of houses, schools, and factories.
However, solar power has one major weakness: it can only produce electricity when the sun is shining. On cloudy days and at night, other sources of energy are needed. To solve this problem, companies are developing better batteries that can store extra electricity for later use. Some experts also point out that large solar farms require a lot of land, and in some areas forests have been cut down to build them.

目安 2分🎙 Last year, the Suzuki family installed solar panels on the roof of their house. The panels were expensive, but the city paid for part of the cost. Now, the family's electricity bill is about half of what it used to be. On sunny days, the panels even produce more electricity than the family needs, and they sell the extra power to an electric company. Mr. Suzuki says he wants to buy an electric car next.
スピーキング(面接No.4形式)
35秒Do you think Japan should use more renewable energy?
Yes. I think renewable energy is better for the environment. Solar and wind power do not produce greenhouse gases. Also, Japan imports most of its oil and gas, so using its own energy sources would be safer.
