Why Naps Can Help

In many countries, taking a short nap during the day was once seen as a sign of laziness. People who slept in the afternoon were often thought to lack energy or motivation. In recent years, however, this attitude has begun to change, as more and more people suffer from a lack of sleep because of long working hours and the use of smartphones late at night.

Researchers have studied the effects of daytime sleep on the brain. According to several studies, a nap of about twenty minutes can improve memory and help people concentrate better in the afternoon. One experiment found that office workers who took a short nap after lunch made fewer mistakes than those who did not. Because of such results, some companies in Japan and the United States have created special rooms where employees can rest for a short time during the workday.

Experts warn, however, that naps are not always helpful. If people sleep for more than thirty minutes, they may fall into deep sleep and feel even more tired when they wake up. Long naps late in the afternoon can also make it harder to fall asleep at night. For this reason, experts recommend that people keep their naps short and take them before three o'clock in the afternoon.

(6)Why has the attitude toward daytime naps begun to change?
(7)What did one experiment find?
第2段落第3文 made fewer mistakes than those who did not を fewer errors と言い換えている。
(8)What do experts recommend?
