Disaster prevention and preparedness

After a big disaster, help may not arrive immediately, so people need to be able to protect themselves at first.

People who know what to do can act calmly, which reduces panic and saves lives.

Community drills bring neighbors together, so they can help each other when a disaster happens.

Preparing for disasters costs money and takes space, and many people stop caring as time passes.

It is impossible for individuals to prepare for every kind of disaster, so the government should take the main responsibility.

Too many drills and warnings may make people tired or anxious rather than more prepared.

Do you think people should prepare for natural disasters at home?

Yes, I do. Japan has many earthquakes and typhoons, so we never know when a disaster will happen. If people keep water, food, and a flashlight at home, they can protect themselves until help arrives. It is also important to know the way to the nearest shelter.

TOPIC

Some people say that schools should teach students more about how to protect themselves from natural disasters. Do you agree with this opinion?

POINTS:Safety / Time / Community
I agree that schools should teach students more about how to protect themselves from natural disasters.

First, it can save students' lives. Japan often has earthquakes and heavy rain, and students may be alone when a disaster happens. If they learn how to evacuate, they can stay safe.

Second, students can help their community. They can tell their families and neighbors what they have learned. Some people may say that schools are already busy, but even one lesson a month would be useful.

For these reasons, I think schools should teach more about disaster prevention.
