目安 4分Free Public Transportation
In 2020, Luxembourg became the first country in the world to make all public transportation free. Luxembourg is a small country, but it had some of the worst traffic jams in Europe, partly because many people travel there to work from neighboring countries by car. The government hoped that more people would use buses and trains instead of cars, which would reduce traffic and air pollution. The system is paid for by taxes.
Some other cities have tried similar ideas, with mixed results. In some places, the number of passengers increased greatly after fares were removed. However, studies found that many of the new passengers were people who had previously walked or cycled, not drivers. In such cases, the number of cars on the roads did not fall much. In addition, some buses became so crowded that regular passengers complained about the service.
These experiences suggest that making transportation free is not enough on its own. Experts say that improving service is also necessary to change people's habits. For example, running trains more often, adding new routes, and making it easier to transfer between buses and trains can make public transportation more attractive than driving. Some cities are also combining cheaper fares with higher parking fees to encourage people to leave their cars at home.

目安 2分🎙 Attention, passengers. Because of an accident near Central Station, trains on the Blue Line are not running at the moment. We expect service to start again in about one hour. Passengers going to the airport can use the special buses leaving from the north exit. Please show your train ticket to the bus driver. You will not have to pay an extra fare. We are sorry for the inconvenience.

はい。公共交通機関を使うほうが環境によいと思います。バスや電車は、1人あたりの二酸化炭素排出量が車より少ないです。また、運転する人が減れば、都市の交通渋滞も減るでしょう。
