Learning from Home Around the World

For a long time, most people believed that the only way to get a good education was to attend classes at a school or university. In the early 2000s, however, some universities began to put videos of their lectures on the Internet for free. Soon, companies started offering online courses on a wide range of subjects, from computer programming to history, and millions of people around the world signed up for them.

Online learning has made education available to many people who could not study before. For example, people living in rural areas far from universities can now take courses taught by famous professors. Working adults can also study in the evening or on weekends because online courses are flexible. During the COVID-19 pandemic, when many schools were closed, online classes allowed students in many countries to continue their education at home.

However, online learning also has some problems. Studies show that only a small percentage of people who start free online courses actually finish them. Without teachers and classmates around them, many learners find it hard to stay motivated. In addition, students from poorer families may not have a computer or a fast Internet connection at home. Because of this, some experts worry that online education could actually increase the gap between rich and poor students.

(6)What happened in the early 2000s?
第1段落第2文 put videos of their lectures on the Internet for free の言い換え。
(7)What is one benefit of online learning?
(8)Why do some experts worry about online education?
第3段落最終文 increase the gap between rich and poor students の言い換え。
