パリに生まれました。国立美術学校の入学試験に3回落ち、装飾彫刻の職人として長く働きます。人間の体の動きや感情を、まるで生きているような力強さであらわし、「近代彫刻の父」とよばれます。代表作は《考える人》《接吻》《カレーの市民》、そして一生をかけてとりくんだ大作《地獄の門》です。パリにはロダン美術館があります。
Rodin was born in Paris. He failed the entrance exam for the national art school three times and worked for years as a decorative craftsman. He showed the movement and feelings of the human body with powerful, lifelike energy, and he is called the father of modern sculpture. His famous works include The Thinker, The Kiss, The Burghers of Calais and The Gates of Hell, which he worked on for the rest of his life. The Musée Rodin is in Paris.
