A full paragraph you can read aloud
A yutanpo is a hot water bottle, and in winter, it's one of the simplest ways people in Japan keep warm at night. Many Japanese homes are not heated in every room, so bedrooms can get very cold. Before going to bed, you fill the yutanpo with hot water, wrap it in a cover, and put it in your futon.
By the time you get in, the bed is warm. The name has an interesting history. It's said to come from a Chinese word that means something like a hot water wife, because it kept a person warm in bed. Japanese people later added yu, the word for hot water, to the front.
There's one thing to be careful about. Even if it only feels warm, keeping it against the same spot of skin for hours can cause a low-temperature burn. Most people use it to warm up the bed and then push it away from their body. I like how it needs no electricity at all.

Why not just use an electric blanket?
Many people do. But a yutanpo needs no electricity, you can use it anywhere, and the heat slowly fades through the night, which some people find more comfortable.
電気毛布を使う人もたくさんいます。でも湯たんぽは電気がいらず、どこでも使えますし、夜の間にゆっくりと冷めていくので、そのほうが心地よいと感じる人もいます。
Why is it called yutanpo?
The usual explanation is that tanpo comes from a Chinese word for a hot water bottle, which used a character meaning wife or old woman. Japanese people later added yu, meaning hot water, so the name actually says hot water twice.
