Wildlife protection and biodiversity
Every species has a role in its ecosystem, and losing one species can damage the whole balance, including the things humans depend on, such as bees that pollinate crops.
Once a species goes extinct, it can never return, so we have a responsibility to protect nature for future generations.
Wildlife attracts tourists and can support local economies, and many medicines have been developed from wild plants and animals.
Protecting wildlife can conflict with human interests; for example, farmers suffer crop damage from wild boars and deer, and bears sometimes threaten residents.
Conservation costs a lot of money, and some people believe that this money should be spent on education or medical care.
Limits on land development, hunting, or fishing can hurt local jobs, especially in poor regions.
- In Japan, the Japanese river otter was declared extinct in 2012.
- On Sado Island, people have worked to bring crested ibises back into the wild.
- Many zoos and aquariums now breed endangered animals and teach visitors about nature.

Do you think children should learn about endangered animals at school?
Some people say that zoos are necessary for protecting endangered animals. Do you agree with this opinion?
POINTS:Protection / Education / Animals' lives✅
Some people say that protecting endangered species is less important than economic development. What do you think?
Should governments give priority to protecting biodiversity even if it slows economic development?
POINTS:Ecosystems / Economic growth / Local communities / Future generations✅
First, biodiversity is the foundation of human life. Forests, wetlands, and insects provide clean water, pollination, and protection from floods, services that would be extremely expensive to replace artificially. If we damage them, the long-term cost to the economy will be far greater than any short-term profit. Protecting them is therefore not a luxury but a practical investment.
Second, we have a moral duty to future generations. Extinction cannot be reversed, so children in the future will never see the species that we allow to disappear today.
Of course, local people whose jobs are affected should receive support such as training or compensation. Nevertheless, protecting nature must come first.
