Cameras That Recognize Faces

Security cameras have become common in train stations, shops, and streets. In the past, cameras simply recorded images, and people had to watch hours of video to find a criminal. Recently, however, some cameras have been equipped with face recognition technology. This technology can automatically identify people by comparing their faces with photos in a database, and it can do this in just a few seconds.

Supporters say that this technology has many benefits. It can help the police find missing children and catch criminals quickly, and some airports use it to check passengers' identities, which shortens waiting times. However, critics argue that it could be used to watch ordinary citizens without their permission. There are also reports that the technology makes more mistakes when identifying people of certain races, and some innocent people have even been arrested because of such errors.

Because of these concerns, some cities in the United States, such as San Francisco, have banned the police from using face recognition. The European Union has also passed a law that strictly limits its use in public places. Meanwhile, in some other countries, the technology is widely used by governments to watch their citizens. Many people believe that clear laws are needed to find the right balance between public safety and privacy.

(8)Which of the following statements is true?
