折り方How to fold

Body (blue paper): start with the white side up. Fold in half diagonally and unfold.

From the right corner, fold the edges to the center line and unfold.

Do the same from the left corner.

Fold all four edges in on the creases at once, pinching the top and bottom corners into small flaps. This is the fish base.

Mountain fold the top half behind.

Inside reverse fold the left point up to make the neck.

Outside reverse fold the tip of the neck forward to make the head.

Inside reverse fold the tip of the head back up to make the crest.

Inside reverse fold the right point down to make the legs.

Inside reverse fold the tip of the legs forward to make the feet.

Inside reverse fold the bottom corner to round the belly.

Train (rectangle): start with the green side up. Fold a thin strip at the top edge toward you.

Fold the two top corners behind.

Fold in half from the middle of the bottom edge and unfold.

Fold the bottom edge to the crease on each side and unfold.

Fold each section in half again and unfold.

Fold each section in half once more and unfold. Now there are 16 sections.

Fold all the creases back and forth, mountain and valley, like an accordion.

Place the body in front of the pleated train, at its narrow end.

Spread the train open like a big fan.

Shape the pleats so the fan stands up in soft folds.

Finished! Shape the pleats so the train stands behind the body. Draw eye spots on the feathers, and your peacock is finished!

Fun fact

The long train of a male peacock is not its tail. It grows from the back, just above the real tail. He spreads it and shakes it to impress females.
