この作品のお話
Story雨が上がったばかりの山。黒々とした大きな岩山の下に、白い霧がもくもくとわき上がり、手前には木々と家の屋根が見えます。描いたのは朝鮮時代の画家・鄭敾（チョン・ソン）。1751年、75歳ごろの作品で、ソウルにある仁王山（インワンサン）を描いています。今はソウルの国立中央博物館にあります。
A mountain just after the rain. White mist rises below a huge dark rock, and trees and a roof are in front. Jeong Seon, a painter of the Joseon dynasty in Korea, painted it in 1751, when he was about 75. It shows Mount Inwang in Seoul. It is now in the National Museum of Korea in Seoul.
それまで朝鮮の山水画は、中国の絵を手本にした「想像の山」を描くことが多くありました。朝鮮の実際の景色を描く作品は以前からありましたが、鄭敾はそれを独自の力強い様式へと発展させました。これが「真景山水（チンギョン・サンス）」です。仁王山のふもとに住んだ彼は、雨にぬれた岩を、濃い墨を太い筆で何度も重ねて表しています。
Before Jeong Seon, Korean landscape painters often painted imagined mountains, following Chinese models. Korean artists had painted real local scenery before, but Jeong Seon developed it into a powerful style of his own. This style is called 'true-view landscape'. He lived near Mount Inwang. To show the wet rocks, he layered dark ink with a wide brush again and again.
この絵は韓国の国宝に指定されています。長くサムスングループの会長・李健熙（イ・ゴンヒ）のコレクションにありましたが、2021年、遺族によって1万点以上の美術品とともに国立中央博物館に寄贈されました。公開されると、予約がすぐにうまるほど多くの人が見に集まりました。
This painting is a National Treasure of Korea. For many years, it was in the collection of Lee Kun-hee, the chairman of Samsung. In 2021, his family gave it, with more than 10,000 other artworks, to the National Museum of Korea. Many people came to see it.
これは韓国・ソウルの山です。雨がやんだばかりです。白い霧が山をつつんでいます。画家は75歳でした。彼の別の絵は、韓国の1000ウォン札にものっています！

The back of Korea's 1,000-won banknote shows Jeong Seon's painting Gyesang Jeonggeodo. Korean people carry his landscape in their wallets every day.
鄭敾には、詩人の李秉淵（イ・ビョンヨン）という生涯の親友がいました。この絵は、病気だった李秉淵の回復を願って描いたのではないかという説があります。雨が上がって晴れていく山に、その思いを重ねたのかもしれません。
Jeong Seon had a lifelong friend, the poet Yi Byeong-yeon. Some scholars think he painted this to pray for his sick friend's recovery. The mountain clearing after rain may show that hope.
右上には「仁王霽色」という題と、「辛未閏月下浣」という文字があります。「辛未（かのとひつじ）の年の、閏5月の下旬」という意味で、今の暦では1751年7月にあたります。
At the top right are the title and the words for 'late in the leap fifth month of the sinmi year'. This is July 1751 in today's calendar.
2021年、李健熙の遺族は約2万3000点もの美術品を国の博物館・美術館に寄贈しました。その大部分が国立中央博物館に入り、この「仁王霽色図」はその中でもとくに注目された名品でした。
In 2021, Lee Kun-hee's family donated about 23,000 artworks to national museums. Most went to the National Museum of Korea, and this painting was one of the most famous among them.

岩のあいだに白い筋が見えます。雨のあとだけ現れる滝でしょうか。
White lines appear between the rocks. They may be waterfalls that appear only after rain.

右下の木々の中に、屋根がのぞいています。山のふもとに住む人の家です。
A roof peeks out among the trees at the bottom right. Someone lives at the foot of the mountain.
